Stand still and you risk getting stuck; that applies especially when laying a hot black surface. “When carrying out road surfacing, your timing must be right,” explains road construction expert Lukas Griffo of the Huttwil-based Gränicher AG construction company. What he means is the perfect interplay between man, machine and logistics. The real secrets of success are the powerful ROADFORM bitumen and roller release agents which prevent the sticky surfacing material from adhering to tools and machinery.
Applying the top coat is the crowning glory of road construction. When the asphalt, bonding and top layers are delivered hot and ready to be applied, every move must be spot-on. Not only must today’s bitumen release agents perform efficiently so as to prevent the hot surfacing material from adhering to machinery and tools, they must also be economical and satisfy stringent environmental and health & safety requirements. The further improved bitumen release agent ROADFORM BTM 4720 and the roller release agent ROADFORM WTM 4700, two bio-degradable and VOC-free special products developed by MOTOREX, pass these contemporary road construction requirements with top marks.
“Release agents are almost invisible, yet hugely important for producing the perfect road surface”, explains Griffo at the construction site. Operating road pavers and grader rollers in particular would be simply impossible without release agents. Apart from the release effect, what counts for him personally is their significant environmental compatibility. Now and then, with a clear conscience, he also sprays the soles of his shoes. This allows him to maintain construction progress without getting stuck.
ROADFORM BTM 4720, the ready-touse bitumen release agent, can be employed undiluted in all direct applications involving sticky black surfacing materials. The agent produces little odor and, due to its high boiling point, remains for a lengthy period on treated surfaces of road-surfacing machines, tires, steel rollers and other tools. A major advantage of ROADFORM BTM 4720 is its integral corrosion protection; it is also neutral in contact with plastics.
Adding ROADFORM WTM 4700 to the machine’s water tank produces a particularly thin release film across the entire width of the roller. This prevents the hot surfacing material from sticking fast to the surface of the roller. This water-miscible release agent was precisely formulated for use in steel roller compressors. It remains stable for a long time; it also contains corrosion protection inhibitors which help to preserve the steel rollers.
