Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the construction industry, and the concrete processing chain is no exception. If you are looking to prevent release agent residue from entering the environment while not compromising on results, CONFORM ECO 7100's combination of reliable technical success and rapid biodegradability could be the right solution for you. Faes Bau AG from Burgdorf, Switzerland, won the contract to construct the new joint Coop® and Jumbo® sales complex in Oberburg. Like the developer with whom it is working, the construction company is committed to sustainable solutions.
The defining feature of the new complex, which is being built to MINERGIE® standards, is the abundant use of wood and concrete. A large proportion of the concrete being used is low-carbon. Jura Eco3 cement contains clay calcined in Switzerland and is one of the country's most sustainable cements. Exposed concrete surfaces have to be made of SB2- and SB3-class concrete, in other words fair-faced concrete that satisfies normal and high aesthetic requirements. Construction industry professionals know that successful concrete pouring relies on everything being right: the quality of the concrete, the weather conditions and temperature, the formwork, correct vibration and de-aeration, and the release agent's properties.
The release agent used in the project is CONFORM ECO 7100, a novel, ready-to-use oil-in-water emulsion. It comprises over 25% renewable raw materials and is over 80 % biodegradable within 28 days under the OECD 301 B test method. This means the eco1- certified release agent satisfies the highest ecobau sustainability standards and corresponds fully to the Minergie-ECO building standard. It forms a robust film on all types of formwork and is suitable for high-quality surfaces up to SB4 classification. Special de-aeration additives prevent pores and cavities. Furthermore, its highly effective corrosion protection package helps preserve the value of steel formwork. CONFORM ECO 7100's systematic avoidance of solvents not only improves workplace quality, but also makes it non-harmful under the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
CONFORM ECO 7100 comes premixed and is applied using a sprayer with a flat spray nozzle at a pressure of around 5 bar. To achieve best results, ensure that the agent is applied sparingly to formwork in an even film. Sparing application avoids the need to manually remove or disperse the release agent afterwards. The white mist of droplets that is created during application provides a simple way of gaging layer thickness and volume. One liter is sufficient for 90 to 130 m², a feature that makes MOTOREX's innovative concrete release agent a forward-looking solution on the efficiency front too.
