MOTOREX developed its high-performance, biodegradable CHAINWAX in close partnership with bicycle engineering specialists and racers. It is the first chain wax to also offer technological advantages. This is how it came about.
The base formulation for the new CHAINWAX high-performance chain lubricant, primarily consisting of a combination of natural waxes and special additives, was completed in fall 2022. The chain wax combines long service life with a dry film of wax and antistatic and water-repellent properties, which stops dirt adhering and keeps chains clean. CHAINWAX's innovative wax-and-water emulsion technology makes it both sustainable and an impressive performer. Chains and cassettes must be fully degreased before the wax is applied for the first time. BIKE CHAIN DEGREASER is the perfect product for this.
By adding a fluorescent marker to the test formulation, it was possible to determine precisely how effectively CHAINWAX penetrated the chain. After the wax emulsion had been applied, the chain was moved over a sprocket cassette in a realistic way and then dismantled. The lubrication points were then examined under UV light to assess how the wax had penetrated. This proc dure was an aid in determining the optimal composition and viscosity for the emulsion.
Further standardized tests determined and optimized lubricating performance, fly-off behavior, dirt adhesion and corrosion protection.
Following laboratory testing and the first in-house trials, experts from the world of cycling came on board for real-world testing in spring 2023. Lukas Flückiger, manager of the Bixs race team, rode over 1,500 km with the test formulation and found no measurable chain wear. While he was testing the wax, he cleaned his bicycle with nothing more than BIKE CLEAN and a cloth. However, he had to reapply CHAINWAX after cleaning and riding in the rain. Two reapplications were needed to fully lubricate the chain. Other top riders and teams such as Team Solution Tech Vini Fantini, Thömus Maxon, PIVOT Factory Racing and employees of DT Swiss also took part in testing. They all confirmed that their chains ran quietly and with silky smoothness and that gear shifting was also extremely smooth. In addition to high-speed runs, the wax was tested over altitude changes of several thousand meters. All testing conducted by winter 2023 was positive.
