Chain drives for motorcycles have long been a proven, powerful means of transmitting mechanical force. In all their various on- and off-road applications, chain care plays a decisive role in reliably ensuring that this mechanical power really does hit the ground running. The MOTOREX CHAINLUBES headed into the starting blocks of the new season in top form, with four chain sprays precisely geared for their intended purpose, advanced formulas, and an informative new packaging feature.

Continually testing, further developing and optimizing these product formulas are core tasks of our MOTOREX Research and Development (R&D) team. Channeled into their work are the insights collected fromriding experience, motorsports, and our collaboration with motorcycle and component manufacturers, all coalescing with lubrication innovations.

Further development and testing methods

When considering the product properties of a chain spray from the perspective of an R&D chemical engineer, interest focuses on the following aspects:

  • lubrication performance
  • fly-off behavior
  • dirt adhesion
  • creep performance
  • corrosion protection

And what those properties are over a certain timeline. The values of these noted criteria can vary widely depending on the intended use and conditions of use (stresses, climate, fouling, etc.) of the chain lubricant. Certain properties can also mutually influence one another. For example, while high creep performance is beneficial in that lube quickly creeps into the chain links, it can, in turn, adversely impact fly-off behavior inadvertently. But this effect can be counteracted by using suitable, state-of-the-art solvents. Whatever the application, MOTOREX integrates the ideal combination of required characteristics into the suitable formula. For example, the drying time of the new formulas for CHAINLUBE ROAD and CHAINLUBE RACING has been shortened, the fly-off resistance strengthened, and their corrosion protection enhanced even more.

Field testing under real conditions

The extensive field testing of the new formulas of CHAINLUBE ROAD and CHAINLUBE RACINGwas conducted in collaborationwith the popular online motorcycle platform 1000ps. Responding to a call for volunteers by the 1000ps editing team, a group of readers tested the newchain sprays over a two-andhalf- month period, both on the road and in racing training. Incidentally: participants included Pedro Acosta of Spain – the 2023 KTM team Moto2-class world champion!

State of the art

A glance in the rear-view mirror of motorcycle history shows the speed at which the technical evolution has advanced. With the systematic updating of the CHAINLUBE SPRAYS, and assuming the practiceoriented 1-2-3 application concept is adopted (1. Clean/2. Care/3. Lube), these chain sprays reflect the state of the art of today’s two-wheeler use. The CHAINLUBES are also available as refillable 56ml sprays to carry with you. The latest CHAINLUBES will be available in spring 2024, exactly when depending on the market.
