Spring is round the corner and farm machinery will be coming back to life. If you have stored your agricultural vehicles, machinery and equipment correctly over winter, you will be rewarded: you'll have no difficulty in putting them into service again. See below for key tips on taking equipment out of winter storage.
You will immediately see any loss of fluids if you look underneath where your tractor is standing and inspect the vehicle itself. Therefore, check the levels of all operating fluids (fuels, oils, AdBlue, cooler protection, windscreen cleaner, etc.). If the tension of the V-belts was relaxed, tension them again according to the manufacturer's instructions. Where possible, drain off condensate and blow out the dry air filters. Start the machine with a charged battery. Then clean both inside and out in a good light. Before using again for the first time, check the brake action, keeping an eye on the control lamps and operating temperature.
Task | Pay attention to/helpful products |
---|---|
Visual inspection | Loss of fluids – filling levels – mechanical damage - hydraulic hoses |
Check levels | Check all fluid levels and top up if necessary (MOTOREX FARMER LINE) |
Electrical systems | Battery charge, clean/protect battery terminals with ACCU PROTECT, check lights |
Condensate | Where possible, drain off water before starting the machine |
V-belt/drive belt | Check for correct tension and inspect for any damage |
Cleaning | Clean outside with INTENSIVE CLEANER. Blow out cab and clean with NTERIOR CLEAN + GLASS CLEANER. Use a microfibre cloth to clean windows (inside and out). Clean/adjust all mirrors. Maintain seals with SILICONE SPRAY |
Tyres | Reduce increased tyre pressure. Recommended values (front) 1.8 – 2.2 and 1.1 – 1.6 bar (rear), visual inspection |
Lubrication service | Clean lubricating nipple before attaching the grease gun with FETT 190 EP and GREASE SPRAY. Lubricate hinges/moving parts with INTACT MX 50 or OIL SPRAY BIO |
Attachments/PTOs | Lubrication and protection using FETT 2000 and OIL SPRAY BIO makes subsequent cleaning easier |
List of faults | Immediately rectify faults or ask your garage to do so during the next service |
"Preferably little and often than rarely and a lot" – this is the motto of experienced agricultural mechanics when it comes to relubrication and general maintenance service. It is known that the service life of high-speed PTOs will increase if relubricated frequently with the right quantity of grease. When greasing axles, they should be relieved of weight.
